2014 marks the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth and Common Ground Theatre are delighted to present their first production of this magical, mysterious play as you’ve never seen it before.
The Autolycuns – a four-piece band of players, singers, tricksters and rogues – invite you to an evening of story and song, a tale of teeth-grinding spite, sheep grazing in green fields, and sweet soul revival….
A Winter’s Tale reimagines Shakespeare’s story of cruelty, separation, love and forgiveness for a quartet of performers, speaking sometimes Shakespeare’s words and sometimes their own. Beginning in the court of Leontes, the jealous king of Sicilia, whose tyrannical cruelty divides his family and blights his kingdom, it follows the fortunes of his abandoned daughter, Perdita. Rescued by shepherds and wooed by a prince, she is returned to a home she has never known to bring peace and reconciliation. With original live music performed by the cast, this is an upbeat adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic play.
